FAQ for Parents

It’s my first time. What happens when I arrive?

When you arrive at the church, bring your child to the Check-In Desk located in the Student Building. Stop by First-Time Families in our Student Building. Our staff will walk you through the Check-In procedures and then escort you to your child’s classroom.

What do I need to bring?

6 Weeks – 24 Months – Please bring a diaper bag with the following items:

  • 2-3 disposable diapers or pull-ups
  • Pacifier or any other item your child may need for comfort
  • Bottles, formula, food, sippy cup, bib
  • Change of clothes

We provide water and a snack to those whose parents have given permission. It is very helpful if your child’s diaper bag, bottles, etc. are labeled with their name.

Preschool – Children must be potty trained before moving up into the Preschool hallway. You may speak to the Preschool Team Lead if you have any questions.

What about goodbyes?

After you have completed the check-in process at your child’s classroom, simply wave a quick goodbye and leave for the worship service. As you know, it is normal for little ones to cry when a parent leaves. This does not last long. Separation becomes easier over time. Our leaders will immediately attempt to create interest in a toy or activity and give assurance that you will return after the service is completed. If your child cries for an extended period of time (around 10 minutes), we will notify you.

What if my child needs me during the service?

In the event that your child needs you, one of our leaders will send a text message to your phone. Please keep your phone on vibrate.

How do I pick up my child after the service?

When you are ready to pick up your child, you may go to your child’s classroom and present your child’s tag number to the leader so they can match it with the number on your child’s sticker. We ask that you make sure all your child’s personal items have been returned to you before you leave the premises.

What kind of security check do the volunteers go through?

We require all Oaks Kids volunteers to be screened. Background, legal and reference checks, as well as personal interviews with the Oaks Kids Staff are needed to serve in Oaks Kids Ministry.

What about snacks?

We provide snacks for all your children, unless otherwise directed by parents. The food items consist of Cheerios, goldfish, animal crackers, and fruit snacks. The only drinks we provide are water.

If your child has a food allergy, please inform our Guest Experience Team at the Check-in Desk. It will be entered into the system. Also, please write it on the sign-in sheet when you check your child into class.

What about my child’s health?

We operate on a Well-Child Program. For the protection of all the children in our ministry, we cannot accept a child with a fever, runny nose, cold, rash, persistent cough, diarrhea or any other signs of illness.

We kindly request that you do not place your child in any of our areas as they are at risk of exposing other children while they are not well. Thank you in advance for helping us keep Oaks Kids a healthy place for everyone.
